I have had my Daytona for over a year now. This is one of the most recognizable watch on the market today. Also one of the most prestigious. From its connection with Paul Newan to the racing histories, this is a must have for any collectors. This is the only chronograph that Rolex makes, also one of the most rare. Personally, I feel this is one of the most balanced watch that Rolex makes. It is comfortable and has understated elegance. You will see Datejust and Submariner on just about every other corner. This watch will make you stand apart from the crowd.

If you own a Daytona, as I do, that is all you have to say.
People who know them, pick up on them right away. They are scarce, and hard to get. That is why if you can get one at jeweler retail $7500, you are lucky.
You can be around people who wear Rolexes, and the sophisticated ones notice it right off the get go. Walk into any jewelry store, and the counter people notice it as you walk in. Its a rush.
Did you know that Rolex prohibits sales people from wearing a Daytona in their stores because customers become angry when they notice them, and find out how few of them are allocated to a store. The waiting list goes to their better customers, and can take years to move up.
If you like the watch, bite the bullet,
and buy it. Otherwise you will waste time, and money waiting to find one.

A great watch from a great manufacturer, at least now that they manufacture their own movements. But why would you pay substantially over retail for ANY watch? Just for cache? You can have the stainless AND gold Daytona for less money, same movement and a lot of gold in the watch. Having said that, this is a very large and impressive if not somewhat clunky watch with a busy dial and the subdials can be a bit tough to read with us older people. So be sure it looks good on your wrist and you are happy with the legibility before purchasing. I also own the new Explorer II release with the new calibre movement and it's almost too big for me. Decide why you need the chronograph complication. It will not be cheap to maintain and adds initial cost. There are better movements (and value) out there but there is no substitute for the Rolex name. It's iconic, affordable and holds value really well. Lastly, make sure you know the date of manufacture. Rolex has issued new movements over time with improved performance, so do your homework, ask questions about (and understand) the calibre number and expect value adjustments accordingly. With the SS you may not get them but at least you know if you have a newer or older version. Best of luck and may this be only one of many great watches in your collection!
